FOULKES DEMANDS SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT FIGHT FOR WEST LOTHIAN JOBS

Wed 9th Sep 2009

Ahead of his crunch meeting with John Swinney tomorrow, Lothians MSP George Foulkes outlined "The tale of two cities" contrasting the Scottish Government's approach to pending job losses at Diageo in Kilmarnock with those at the Bausch and Lomb plant in Livingston.

In his meeting tomorrow, George Foulkes will demand that the Cabinet Secretary for Finance show the same degree of interest and passion in saving the jobs in Livingston that they demonstrated in Kilmarnock.

In his most recent video diary George Foulkes said: "I'll be asking John Swinney to increase the Scottish Governments own profile in the campaign to save these 500 jobs in Livingston. I will also be asking John Swinney to perhaps remind Bausch and Lomb about the amount of Government subsidy they have received to date and the responsbility to the local community which comes with that investment."

He further added. "My constituents in Livingston deserve the same degree of Government attention as those in Kilmarnock. It's time for all the political parties, together with the union and the local authority, to come together and fight for these jobs. If they can't be sustained with Bausch and Lomb then everything possible must be done to create new opportunities for these workers now."
