A Well Deserved Reward for the Sick Kids

A Well Deserved Reward for the Sick KidsEach year, the Forestry Commission very kindly donate a Christmas tree to each MSP, who can choose an organisation or place to put their tree.  This year, George’s choice was the Sick Kids in Edinburgh, who have had a roller coaster of a year.  From worries of securing funding in their existing building, to putting in every effort to raise £15 million for their new home, they have been working tirelessly to stand up for some of the most vulnerable children in our community, and their tree is well deserved! George said, “The Sick Kids have constantly been battling for years against threats to funding, services and an uncertain future, and it was without much hesitation at all that I knew who my tree this year should go to.  I hope this Christmas is more relaxing than the last few months for everyone at the Sick Kids, and I hope this tree does a little to show my appreciation for everything so many staff and volunteers have done.  Of course the children themselves have, as ever, been fantastic. “While some of the circumstances have been deeply regrettable, it’s been a joy working so closely with the Sick Kids since being elected in May 2007.  Despite some of the challenges which they face in the near and not so near future, I know that the spirit of the staff, volunteers, families, friends and children will ensure that their best days are ahead of them, and I wish them all a peaceful, fun and relaxing Christmas.”
