City Council drop attempts to tender out Care Services

Edinburgh City Council have today announced that following an independent review, they are to abandon their ill advised attempts to tender out the city's care services.

Volunteer groups and service users across Edinburgh will be thrilled to hear that their long fought campaign has been successful. With more news to follow, the key points of the news released today are:

·         No Care and Support contracts will be awarded.

·         All tenders have now ceased.

·         The Deloitte report found that there were problems in the tender award process

·         The Deloitte report found that that ranking of bids were changed in the “quality assurance process”

·         An initial Direct Payment of £15.04 is to be set

This is "aspirational and a transition period" [length unspecified] will be allowed for organisations to meet it.

·         If organisations cannot in the end meet this there might need to be discussion about alternative providers

·         A framework agreement arrangement will be used in the future to allow  a range of providers to provide services

George Foulkes said "This was come as a great relief to service users across the city. However, there are many questions and issues still unresolved and I personally hope that the Council will use this period of reflection to reconsider its position on the Council's Homelessness services."
